OpenClaw Discord Bot Setup Guide

Step 1: Create a Discord Application

Open your web browser and go to the Discord Developer Portal. Log in with your Discord account (the same one you use to chat on Discord). Once logged in, click the blue "New Application" button in the top right corner. Give your application a name (for example, "My OpenClaw Bot") and click "Create".

Step 2: Enable Discord Bot Features

In your new application's settings page, look at the left sidebar and click on "Bot". Then click the "Add Bot" button and confirm by clicking "Yes, do it!". Your OpenClaw Discord bot is now created! You'll see a new section with your bot's profile picture and username.

Step 3: Copy Your Discord Bot Token

On the Bot page, you'll see a "Token" section with a "Copy" button. Click "Copy" to copy your Discord bot token to your clipboard. This token connects your OpenClaw instance to Discord - keep it secret and never share it publicly!

Step 4: Configure Discord Bot Permissions

In the left sidebar, click on "OAuth2" and then "URL Generator". Under "Scopes", check the box for "bot". Under "Bot Permissions", select the following permissions: View Channels, Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files, and Read Message History. These permissions allow your Clawdbot Discord bot to function properly in your server.

Step 5: Generate Bot Invite Link

After configuring the bot permissions, you'll see a generated URL at the bottom of the page. Click the "Copy" button next to the generated URL. Paste this URL into your web browser to open the Discord authorization page. Select your Discord server from the dropdown and click "Authorize" to add your Clawdbot Discord bot to your server.

Step 6: Configure OpenClaw for Discord

Now open your OpenClaw configuration file. On Mac/Linux, open Terminal and type the command below. On Windows, use the file path shown. Add your Discord bot token to enable the Clawdbot Discord integration channel.

Step 7: Restart OpenClaw Discord Gateway

After saving your OpenClaw Discord configuration file, restart the gateway for changes to take effect. Open your Terminal (or Command Prompt on Windows) and run the restart command to activate your Clawdbot Discord connection.

Step 8: Verify OpenClaw Discord Connection

To verify your OpenClaw Discord integration is working correctly, run the health check command. If you see "Discord: ok" in the output, congratulations! Your Clawdbot Discord bot is now connected and ready to receive messages.
